GMT and Shiwei International launch the Entrepreneurship Initiative

The company announced that it will incorporate its R&D platform into SOLIDWORKS 2026, enhancing its next-generation design capabilities for high-precision silicon photonics equipment.

On November 17, Servtech International (8416) held the "335 Ignition of Intelligent Manufacturing, GMT Innovation Project Launch Meeting" at GMT Corporation, announcing that SOLIDWORKS 2026 will be introduced into the company's R&D platform to enhance the next generation design capabilities of high-precision equipment.

Both parties will use digital tools to deepen the "silicon photonics key technology - optical coupling" process and jointly develop precision coupling system solutions for the AI and semiconductor fields.

GMT has long been committed to R&D, and has won the Innovation Research Award and the Taiwan Excellence Award. During the pandemic, it continued to promote OKR, SPC and lean manufacturing to strengthen its organizational and process capabilities. In recent years, as silicon photonics has become a core technology for high-speed transmission in AI servers, the demand for co-packaged optics (CPO) has accelerated. GMT has further entered the field of silicon photonics and CPO optical coupling systems.

Silicon photonics assembly faces challenges of thermal drift and vibration, so the equipment must have high stability and multiphysics compensation capabilities; optical coupling requires the integration of measurement, algorithms and high-speed control.

GMT utilizes a six-axis platform, AI image servo, and 6D laser metrology to automate the "light finding → alignment" process, supporting CPO optical engines, AI server optical modules, and wafer-level packaging and testing. It covers 800G to 1.6T, extending to 3.2T/6.4T optical transceiver modules, providing comprehensive active alignment and wafer-level optical coupling testing solutions, becoming a crucial equipment foundation for CPO mass production in the AI era. In response to order growth and customer demands, GMT has comprehensively upgraded its SOLIDWORKS suite of tools this year, including 3D design, Simulation, Composer, and PDM, to establish a consistent and efficient R&D process. Simultaneously, it adopts the SOLIDWORKS 335 maintenance project to ensure stable software updates and uninterrupted technical support for the next 3 to 5 years.

R&D Manager Hsu Yung-ching stated that the upgrade will improve version consistency and reduce maintenance burden, resulting in optimal budget efficiency. General Manager Chen Chih-hsin pointed out that the company has been actively planning for Industry 4.0 since its inception, and this upgrade will strengthen its future competitiveness in the optical communication and semiconductor equipment markets. The system upgrade is being planned by Servtech International and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Servtech International General Manager Hsu Tai-yuan stated at the launch meeting that SOLIDWORKS 2026 will introduce the new AI-assisted design tool AURA, which will help GMT enhance R&D efficiency with AI, moving towards a smarter and more competitive new era of manufacturing.
