Introduction to Linear Motion Stage Rails

 Linear motion guide rail

GMT linear motion guide rail is composed of two V-shaped grooves that have been heat-treated and hardened, then subjected to high-precision forming and grinding, and together with rolling elements. The rollers move alternately at connected 90-degree angles to achieve the requirements of high parallelism and high flatness.

In terms of construction, because the rolling elements use precision cylindrical rollers and V-grooves in a cross-line contact manner for transmission, and it is a non-cyclic method, the variation in frictional resistance is also quite small. Even under light loads, the starting frictional resistance is almost the same as the moving frictional resistance, thus achieving high-precision movement and high load-bearing capacity.

 Stage rail product selection process

  1. Select the rolling element retainer according to the load requirements:

Heavy load → roller

Light load → ball bearing

  1. According to the diameter of the rolling element
  2. Select the required type based on the stage rail's installation method.

Stage rail application

It is widely used in high-precision, heavy-duty or light-duty precision moving devices, in various measuring instruments, printed circuit board drilling machines and other precision machines, or in optical testing instruments, optical experiments for precision measurement, precision fine-tuning of optical work stages, operating mechanisms, inspection devices, precision positioning, quantitative movement, X-ray devices and fine hole discharge machines, etc.

Lubrication function

Effective lubrication is essential for linear motion. Operating without lubrication will increase wear on the rolling elements and shorten their lifespan. Lubrication function:

  1. By minimizing friction between moving parts, jamming can be prevented and wear reduced.
  2. An oil film is formed on the rolling surface to reduce metal-to-metal interface wear and extend the service life of the rolling elements.
  3. It is used to cover metal surfaces to prevent rusting.

Feature Description

  • Suitable for minute movements: Because the frictional resistance is extremely small, and there is almost no difference between the starting frictional resistance and the moving frictional resistance, even minute movements can maintain correct tracking performance, making it a linear motion mechanism capable of achieving high precision.
  • Low-speed stability: Even under light load, the change in frictional resistance is quite small, so it can maintain stable operation from low speed to high speed.
  • High rigidity and high load capacity: Compared with steel balls, rollers have a larger contact area and less elastic deformation. Moreover, they are non-cyclic and have more effectively rotating parts, resulting in high rigidity and high load capacity.
  • Low noise: GMT linear motion guide rail does not rotate continuously, so it does not generate noise. Because it uses a ball bearing with retainer, there is also no noise from friction between rotating parts, achieving quiet operation.

Roller type guide rails: GRV / GRD / GRVP / GRVG / GRDP

It is composed of precision rollers that are orthogonally combined; the track is heat-treated and cryogenically treated, and then precision-formed and ground with V-shaped grooves to form a high-precision linear motion body.

A finite-stroke linear motion system with high rigidity, medium to heavy load capacity, and smooth operation.

Ball bearing stages: GBV / GBD

The ball retainer, composed of precision steel balls arranged with small spacing, is combined with a special track with V-shaped grooves formed by precision grinding after ultra-deep cryogenic treatment.

A finite stroke linear motion system with low friction, light load, and high precision.
